GOODBYE, GOODBYE, GOODBYE
IT IS WONDERFUL to be home, and to finally wash the smell of Amtrak and airplanes* off.
AS ALWAYS, while on the road, only the lowlights sine with a sickly light. But now at home, the highlights are blinding.
AS USUAL, they have nothing to do with me. Here is a list in no particular order: Steve’s Stun Gravy at Montage, and skull after skull of Crystal Head Vodka at Echoplex; Erin remembering the old Little Gray Book Lecture emails in Portland; Coulton amending “The Presidents” with one more before retiring the song; Rob Baedeker asking the same questions about mole-men in two separate cities; getting a chance to eat an apple and thank Eggers on stage for McSweeney’s; Martin Cruz Smith showing up A SECOND TIME in Corte Madera; Roderick vamping a new theme song for Dune before playing “Pushover” at Coulton’s and my request; Coulton’s traditional combo of patience and awesome forcing me to raise my game every night (THAT IS A SPORTS METAPHOR), and of course:
SEATTLE, start to finish. Here is a rundown from someone named Chris that I found online that brings all the disparate videos together. Who is Chris? THIS IS CHRIS.
I am especially glad that Sean Nelson’s rendition of The Porpoise Song is not lost to time.
THAT IS TO SAY: not lost to time until such time as Mickey Dolenz finally finds Sean Nelson and saps him with his own cosh-pocketed cosh.
UNTIL THEN, enjoy, and thank you, and goodbye.

THAT IS ALL.
* THIS IS EITHER a new kind of cologne, or a new role playing game. I will tell you when I have decided.

That was a great show at the Echoplex. Thank you for sharing complete world knowledge with us!

Glad you are back home. You deserve the rest.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!
What were Jonathan Coulton’s new lyrics for the Presidents? And he’s never going to sing it again? Is that the implication of your post? A sad day indeed.

Like Nicholas, I am deeply interested in this special and final presentation of the Presidents. Is there YouTubery of this?

Check the THIS IS CHRIS link for the new version of the song.
Brilliant show. I didn’t know you could pretend to play the ukulele.

’tis cool that you will appear at the Apple Store in SoHo once again.
I read that you would like to write a Brisco County Jr. movie, but would you settle for Bruce Campbell jacking your car in an episode of Burn Notice?

WooHoo! My humble video of your closing number made it onto the compilation. I am so glad someone got the new presidents version I was worried it was lost forever. Great show!

To give credit where due: “The Porpoise Song” was written by the great Carole King and Gerry Goffin.

If you want it to be a roleplaying game, I write those. Like, professionally. For hire. Do tell.

When in Oxford, please come to Ajax diner after your appearance on Thacker Mountain Radio. We’re all big fans…and its the yummiest soul food around.

The Porpoise Song = best song ever!!! I wish you would bring him to Oxford with you this week. Can’t wait to see you on Thursday! Just so you know, I have a biochem final the next day. But you are more important.

A bit late in responding, but heartfelt nonetheless. Thank you, Mr. Hodgman, for a lovely show, and for being so very gracious and generous with your time afterward. Also, the antiseptic properties of the vodka seem to have prevailed.

Hello, John! Thank you for sharing my video! I’m glad you enjoyed your tour, and I’m grateful you stopped in Seattle. That was the best reading I’ve ever attended. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
